Company and History

Fernco Environmental is a new company within the Fernco group, and focuses on minimising environmental impact within sewerage and drainage industries.

Jon Crean, Group Sales Director, summarises ‘the team in the UK are working hard to deliver innovation and move into new industries, new markets and new countries. There are a variety of challenges which the industry needs to address such as sustainability, environmental awareness and meeting the demands of new legislation. Fernco Environmental aims to provide the tools the industry needs to succeed’.

Fernco Environmental operates from the same building as Flexseal in the UK.

Flexseal was established in 1988 in Sheffield (South Yorkshire, UK) with the core business being the design, manufacture and assembly of flexible couplings for the repair of sewer and drainage pipes. Click here to view the Flexseal website.

In 1991 Flexseal increased capacity with the acquisition of a 1022m2 factory to meet the increasing demand for flexible couplings, which was then followed by further expansion into a 1858m2 factory.

The company generated considerable growth during the late 1990's across domestic and international markets. In 1998 a new state of the art purpose built production facility (2787m2) was commissioned in Wombwell (Barnsley) in order to meet the business' continued development and marked the 10th year anniversary of the business. Over the ten year period the number of employees increased from two to over sixty.

In 2002 Flexseal was acquired by the US Fernco group of companies, creating a global group who supply the most comprehensive range of flexible couplings in the world.

The 1980s and 90s saw continued growth with investments made in further injection moulding capabilities, process improvements and distribution and manufacturing facilities. Innovations such as flexible elbows and tees made the Flexseal name synonymous with the highest quality of product and service in the industry.

And more recently, in 2007, Fernco Environmental was established. Moving forward, the company will continue to expand into new markets, providing new systems to new customers, always with innovation as a primary focus.

Fernco Environmental operate an ISO 9001 Quality Management System registered by BSI (FM 91289) for the "Design, development, manufacture and supply of pipe connection and water management systems. Repair of pipes, sewers and water infrastructure". 

Fernco Environmental are also recognised as fulfiling the requirements of ISO 14001:2004.
