Following the recent purchase of their 90 degree Radius Repair System Packer, the contractor asked Tony Hickman, the Product Development Manager at Flexseal, to assist him with his first repair.
The client reported the initial fault as a 'bad smell'. The CCTV survey showed that both joints at either end of a vertical 90deg bend, which lead to the gents toilet, were open joints and leaking sewage to ground. The lower joint was particularly severe in that not only was it an open joint, but also severely displaced....by approx 25-30%.
By removing the toilet bowl, access was gained from inside the toilet. This was the easiest point of access as insertion of the packer from the downstream side would have been hindered by the severe displacement. The patch was made as long as possible by under-folding of the mat. This was necessary to seal both joints with one patch and to allow for the amount of patch material that would be 'lost' on the drop of the displacement.
The distance was accurately measured and the successful repair was completed in under 2.5 hours.
